Hortus by Night

Hortus by night – Amsterdam light festival 2022

A project that bridge the gap between art, science and technology in order to visualize man’s relationship with the world around us. showcasing an interactive performance in which plants and people are equal protagonists. during this project we brought 15k visitors over 3 weeks

I collaborated with the collective “The Plant Is Present” on various aspects, including concept development, programming, and set design. Our ultimate goal was to create an immersive installation that seamlessly merged art, science, and technology to highlight the relationship between humans and the environment. The installation was divided into three sections, each representing a distinct element of the story we wanted to convey.

In the first section, located in the tropical area, we delved into the world of plant communication. To visualize this theme, I produced several installations showcasing this phenomenon’s beauty and complexity. We then guided visitors to the desert area, where they could interact with algae and light projections. From there, we led them to the subtropical area, where multiple paths converged on the final part of the installation, “The Gift Exchange.” As the key member responsible for this section, I redesigned the main piece to create a magical connection between humans and nature. Visitors were given a one-on-one moment with the mother tree, which was located in the center of the greenhouse and connected to all the other plants in the room. Visitors were encouraged to meditate and communicate with nature, and if they were successful in doing so, they were rewarded with a mesmerizing sound and light scape www.dehortus.nl/en/hortus-by-night-2022
